RMDS Read-A-Thon

Back by popular demand – the RMDS Readathon. Thanks to lockdown and restrictions on activities due to COVID 19, lots of children (and their adults!) have been spending more time on screens than usual. So, time to get them off the devices and into books. And raise some funds for the school at the same time!

This year’s Read-a-thon, as well as encouraging children to read, will involve the children in raising much needed funds for the new sensory room, which provides a calm space for children who become overwhelmed by the busy classroom.

Sponsorship forms were sent home with the children before the Halloween mid-term break, and each child (should they choose to take part) will set their own reading target. The Read-a-thon should not be in any way competitive. With homework, hobbies and chores, all of the children have jam packed schedules, so they need only to set a realistic goal, worthy of sponsorship from parents, uncles, aunties, grannies & grandads. There is no fundraising target per child and participation is entirely voluntary. Please note: We don’t want children going door-to-door at this time, given that we are all trying to limit our contacts.

The Read-a-thon will finish on November 6, when all funds raised will be collected. You can donate collected funds online here or bring funds collected into school in an envelope. . There will be a small treat to reward the children for their fantastic fundraising efforts!
